It’s no surprise that sticking to one airline for miles redemption provides the best bang for your buck (Like to fly Cathay? Asia Miles is the obvious choice). So why redeem through other oneworld partners at all?
According to David B. Wang, our in-house airline expert, redeeming through oneworld partner airlines (e.g. redeeming for a British Airways flight as an Asia Miles member) makes the most sense in the following scenarios:
- When you want to upgrade your flight
- When you want to redeem for a flight that isn’t covered by your primary airline program
For flight upgrades, the conversion premium is often minimal compared to redeeming a whole flight ticket, while redeeming a flight beyond your primary airline’s coverage gives you more redemption flexibility.
