Airline and hotel loyalty partnerships can add useful benefits, but “link your accounts” is not the same as an unconditional status match. Eligibility, qualification requirements and benefit periods can differ by tier and market. Singapore travellers should check the details before relying on a linked status for a trip.

A current example: JAL and Marriott Bonvoy

Japan Airlines announced an expanded strategic partnership between JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) and Marriott Bonvoy on 14 July 2026. The announcement describes reciprocal status benefits alongside the programmes' existing points-conversion relationship. Members need accounts in both programmes and must link them.

Under the announcement, linked Marriott Bonvoy members can receive FLY ON Points, with the amount depending on Marriott status. JMB members at Basic or Crystal level can receive Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite after meeting specified stay requirements, while JMB Sapphire and higher tiers can receive corresponding Marriott status automatically. Exact eligibility and benefits should be checked on the official programme pages before acting.

1. Confirm that your tier qualifies

Do not rely on a general partnership headline. Find your precise airline and hotel tiers in the terms. Check whether the benefit is automatic, requires stays or flights, or applies only during a registration window.

2. Match your account details

Your name, date of birth, email or other profile information may need to align. Resolve duplicate accounts and use the programmes' official linking route. Never share passwords with an unofficial intermediary.

3. Understand the benefit clock

Check when the matched status begins, how long it lasts and what happens when the source status expires. Some benefits can take time to appear. Do not promise a lounge visit, breakfast or upgrade to yourself until the receiving account shows the status and the specific reservation is eligible.

4. Check geography and property or flight rules

A partnership announced globally may still have residency, participating-property, fare or booking-channel conditions. Singapore-based membership does not by itself prove that every benefit applies on every trip.

5. Review privacy and unlinking

Read what data is shared between programmes and how consent can be withdrawn. Also check whether unlinking affects benefits already granted or pending qualification.
